ArcheAge Unchained, so confusing

I started playing ArcheAge Unchained in February 2021. Initially I rolled a Warborn of the Haranya (East) faction, because the whole demonic thing was appealing. However, it was kind of disappointing from the start. First (& maybe most importantly), after I spent half an hour designing my character's looks, once ingame she didn't look anything like my efforts. I ended up deleting, for which ArcheAge makes you wait, depending on the character's level, & doing it over, trying to compensate for the ingame changes. In the end I was just "fuck it, it's not like I ever actually look at her face anyway." The Warborn tutorial is apparently in a completely different physical form (kind of like the Daeva lost memories in Aion) with WoW Death Knight type skills (you could just hit the keyboard with your forehead & whatever attacks you hit would kill everything around you).

Once I started questing for real, the world was somewhat bleak & the NPCs were rude. Warborn are apparently looked down upon by their faction. I think it was the ugly world that disillusioned me more though. So I rerolled (this time I had to wait a lot longer) a Firran Maledictor.

The Firran starting area is a lot nicer & Firrans have a cool racial that negates fall damage. I tend to fall off things. Also, with a catgirl I didn't really care what her face looked like so character creation - as Ian calls it, the biggest boss - was relatively quick.

I was playing on Denistrious, & it was pretty unpopulated. Apparently all servers were pretty unpopulated, because in March, Trion (or Gamigo, whatever) merged all 7 servers into 2.

My Firran ended up on Marmas, & out of curiosity I rolled an Elf (Nuian faction, West) Sorceror on Akmit. It turned out to be the right move because Marmas was constantly high pop. I liked the empty servers.

I didn't waste too much time rolling the Elf, & ingame she didn't look super different, but it doesn't really matter anyway. Nuia so far has been very pretty, & my character is level 46 now, although most of that xp came from gathering & crafting. I'm way behind on quests. I did get my 1st scarecrow garden though, & after looking at Dewstone, Marianople, Two Crowns, & White Arden, I decided on White Arden.

I kind of want to move to Dewstone now, just because there's millet growing all over the place & I like getting the random hay bale. It's also way better for mining, & my main source of income right now is selling iron bars on the AH.

I got a little carried away with the tax certificates though, & I'm prepaid all the way until August, apparently. I didn't realize I prepaid that much. It only really cost me Labor though (300 a pop), & although now I'm capable of using all 5000 up in one session, I do still have more tax certificates in my inventory. Now that I know how easy they are to make, I guess I'm not so worried.

So far I'm enjoying AAU, even with a well populated server. The player base, at least on the Nuian side, isn't too toxic. It's kind of the same folks chatting most nights, & although I'm not familiar enough to socialize, the few times I have asked game questions, I was given helpful advice.

Right now I have about 500g, which is not enough for anything really, but I'm still totally confused about how everything works. I need to move along with my questing though; I've been mucking around trying to make money but I'm leveling almost completely on gathering xp.

I've delivered a few trade packs - it's sooo tedious, & I wasted a lot of time trying to look up turn in places. On Nuia it's Cinderstone, Solzreed, & Two Crowns. I haven't seen any pvp & I'm totally fine with that since I don't even know what most of my spells do anyway. The spells themselves are so complicated if you want to maximize usage with combos. There's no plain old nuke. I'm not here for pvp anyway, though - that's what Overwatch is for.

The money from trade packs is ok, but I make more selling iron ingots. Delivering trade packs requires only a little Labor, though, so it's a way to make some gold when I can't craft/mine/gather.

I still have to figure out what Gilda specialty packs are. I really need to get back questing. lol
